Desert Survival Power

     This portable solar power system will deliver a maximum of 150 watts of 12-volt DC power for a short time via the female cigarette lighter socket, and 150 watts of 120-volt AC power inverter (limited by the inverter), and is best suited to provide power to electronic devices that draw 120 watts or less.  The cigarette lighter socket is protected against over-current by a 15-amp ATC fuse (simple to replace; extras included).  If the power draw of your electronic device is 40 watts, the battery will last approximately 3.5 hours in the absence of incoming solar power before it needs to be recharged, longer if the power draw is less.  

     The battery, charge controller, inverter, wiring, and accessories are housed in a heavy-duty canvas bag that can be carried by a handle, and are padded inside the bag by custom configured foam.  The solar panel remains outside the bag.  Desert Survival Power comes with: Bag: military mechanic’s tool bag in digital desert camouflage.  Battery: 18 amp-hour (216 watt-hours) adsorbed glass mat, sealed lead acid.  Charge controller: 4.5-amp unit that has a continuous baseline power consumption of 6 milliamps, and that is protected by a 5-amp circuit breaker.  When the system is not being used, the circuit breaker should be switched to the off position to keep the battery from being drained and/or damaged.  The breaker must be turned to the on position to solar charge the battery, or to use the system.  Power inverter: continuous 150-watt, 12VDC to 120VAC/60 Hz, modified sine wave unit with two 3-prong 120-volt AC receptacles and one 5-volt USB charge port.  Solar panel: foldable 36-watt unit in solid black that weighs 4 pounds, and that will require 7-8 hours of peak sunlight to completely recharge the battery if it is depleted (not the panel that is shown in the photographs).   

     The entire system weighs approximately 23 pounds.
